Why a licensed handyman matters in St. Petersburg
We're licensed Florida general contractors (CRC1331628 + CGC1522463) who do small jobs. Most handymen aren't licensed. We are.
St. Petersburg's older housing stock
A lot of St. Pete housing was built before 1960 — plaster ceilings (not drywall), original wood windows, terrazzo floors, single-pane awning windows. Most handymen call those materials "not their thing" and refer you out. We work on them regularly through the parent side of the business, so they aren't a specialty upcharge for us — they're routine. Plumbing and electrical scope on those homes is handled in-house or through our trusted licensed trade partners, depending on what the job calls for.
Coastal small repairs done right
Post-storm punch lists, hurricane-grade fasteners, FEMA 50%-rule aware when a fix approaches the substantial-improvement threshold. We work on the coast, so the small choices — corrosion-resistant hardware, marine-grade sealant, drainage detail — are already baked into how we do the job.
Backed by Revolution Contractors
Contractors On Call is a division of Revolution Contractors LLC. Same Florida GC license, same crew, same insurance — routed to the small-job lane. When you hire us for a wall patch, you're hiring the same operation that also builds $2 million custom homes. Different scope, same discipline.
What we handle
Handyman-scope small jobs across St. Petersburg. Click a scope for the detail page:
St. Petersburg core is home base — Old Northeast, Historic Kenwood, Snell Isle, Downtown, Shore Acres, Driftwood, Roser Park, and the beaches. We also take work throughout Pinellas County and, when the job justifies the drive, into South Tampa and the Clearwater Beach corridor. Small jobs go where the phone goes — we don't cap our service area by a mile radius.
A few neighborhood-specific things worth flagging up front:
· Old Northeast, Historic Kenwood, Roser Park: historic-district homes. Interior work generally doesn't need Certificate of Appropriateness review, exterior street-facing changes usually do. We flag it before quoting.
· Snell Isle, Shore Acres, Downtown high-rises: HOA approval and elevator scheduling matter. We have COI templates ready for HOA portals and know how to work around the noise-complaint window.
· Coastal Pinellas (St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach): salt-air corrosion, marine-grade fastener requirements, and FEMA flood-zone considerations shape the repair choices. We work coastal regularly.
· Mid-Pinellas mid-century (Driftwood, parts of Pinellas Park): plaster ceilings, terrazzo floors, jalousie windows, aging drain lines. Same techniques as Old Northeast — plaster and lath.
The value of hiring a licensed GC for handyman work isn't the typical repair — a straight patch, a hardware swap, a paint touch-up. Most handymen can do those competently. The value shows up when the scope changes mid-job.
Under Florida statute, unlicensed handymen have a narrow legal scope. They can do cosmetic, non-structural work. The moment a job requires a permit — anything structural, most electrical, most plumbing, any window or door replacement in a flood zone, most work on the building envelope — the unlicensed handyman is out of scope. What tends to happen: they either do the work anyway (illegal, voids your insurance if something goes wrong), or they stop mid-scope and you have to re-hire a licensed contractor to finish. That's the second truck-roll, the second quote, and often two weeks of dust in your living room.
Our angle is simple: we're Florida CRC + CGC licensed, same credentials as the contractor building a $2 million custom home. When a small job creeps up, we pull the permit ourselves and keep going. No handoff, no second contractor, no re-quote. Plumbing and electrical scope is handled in-house or through our trusted licensed trade partners depending on what the work calls for — same coordination discipline, same one point of contact.
How it works
1. Send a photo (or call). Text a picture of the job to (727) 258-3700or call and describe it. If we need a second angle we'll ask.
2. Price back in 24–48 hours. We come back with a price and a day count — no on-site visit needed for most small-job scopes. If a walkthrough helps, we schedule it.
3. We book the day. You pick the day; we arrive when we said we would. Half-day scopes are usually the same week; multi-day scopes with materials to order run a week or two out.
4. We do the work. Same Revolution-side crew you'd get if you hired the parent company. If something behind the wall or under the floor changes the scope, we stop and show you before doing extra work.
5. We stand behind our work. If a fix doesn't hold and it's our workmanship, we come back and make it right.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How is Contractors On Call different from a regular handyman?
We're a licensed Florida general contractor (CRC1331628 + CGC1522463) that takes on handyman-scope work. Most handymen aren't licensed contractors, which is fine for a lot of jobs — until a permit is needed, or the scope creeps into structural, electrical, or plumbing. Common example: a small drywall patch opens up and reveals a rotted stud, an active leak, or a hidden electrical run. Most handymen have to stop and refer you out to a licensed contractor at that point. We keep going under our own license, pull the permit if the scope needs one, and finish the job in the same visit.
What jobs are too big for you?
Whole-home remodels, additions, and new construction go through our parent, Revolution Contractors. If you call us and the scope belongs there, we tell you and move you over. If it's small-job scope — a half-day patch, a doorframe that racked, tile that cracked, a punch list — that's what we're for.
Are you really insured?
Yes. General liability and workers' comp, current, on file. If you need a certificate of insurance for a condo HOA portal or property manager, we can send one before we arrive.
Do you pull permits?
When the work legally requires one, we pull it under our license. That's the whole point of being a licensed GC doing small jobs — a handyman can't pull permits, we can. If you're not sure whether your job needs one, ask us on the phone and we'll tell you straight.
How fast can you respond?
We aim for a price back within 24 to 48 hours of your photo or call. Actual scheduling depends on the queue and the job size. A half-day patch is often the same week — sometimes even the same-day if we're already in your neighborhood. A full-day scope with materials to order (custom trim, texture-matching primer, specialty hardware) runs a week or two out. Emergency-priority work — active water damage, storm-blown-in openings — we route ahead of the queue when the schedule allows. We tell you the day before you book.
How much does handyman work cost?
Most single-repair scopes land in the $150 to $500 range. Grouped punch lists and small construction scopes typically run $500 to $3,000. Our billing rate is $75 an hour with a one-hour minimum. You get a written price before any work starts. For scopes where the number is genuinely uncertain we quote a range with the reason for the range spelled out — never a padded number to pocket the difference.
Can I bundle several small items into one visit?
That's actually the most efficient way to work with us. A single truck-roll for one $150 patch is expensive per-item. A truck-roll for a dozen items — drywall patches, a wonky sliding door, a stuck window, some trim replacement, a cabinet-hardware pass — spreads that cost across the whole list. Send the full photo set, we quote the bundle, and we come once instead of five times.
Do you do plumbing or electrical?
Some incidental plumbing and electrical work we handle in-house as part of a broader job. When it crosses into licensed-trade territory — re-piping, panel upgrades, service work — we route it through our trusted licensed plumbers or electricians. You get one point of contact for the whole job and one coordinated visit.
